The top honour in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022, sponsored as ever by Acqua Panna and S.Pellegrino, went to Geranium restaurant in Copenhagen by Chef Rasmus Kofoed.

In a glamorous event on 18th July in the historic setting of the Old Billingsgate market in London, award-winning actor and famous foodie Stanley Tucci announced the winners of this 20th anniversary edition. The evening was also live-streamed on The World's 50 Best social media channels.

Joining Chef Kofoed on the podium were Virgilio Martinez and Pía Leon of Central, in Lima, and the trio of Chefs Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas of Disfrutar, Barcelona.

Further honours handed out during the evening included the Champions of Change awards, sponsored by Acqua Panna and S.Pellegrino. Now in its second year, this program shines a light on unseen heroes in the world of gastronomy who are driving positive change in their local communities. Those recognised in 2022 were Dieuveil Malonga, a Rwandan educationalist and founder of the Chefs in Africa initiative; Olia Hercules and Alissa Timoshkina, long-time friends - one Ukrainian and the other Russian - who created #CookForUkraine; and finally Koh Seng Choon, the social entrepreneur behind Dignity Kitchen, serving hope and opportunity to the disadvantaged in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Other titles announced prior to the event included The World's Best Female Chef 2022, awarded to Leonor Espinosa from Leo restaurant in Bogotá, the Icon Award, won by Kenyan humanitarian Wawira Njiru, and the One To Watch award, picked up by the Marseille restaurant AM par Alexandre Mazzia. This 3-Michelin-star chef will soon be bringing his culinary kudos to the French jury for the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition 2022-23.
